Happy Holidays To All!
Vital Statistics
We
have now been married 15.5 years. Katie
is almost 6, or 16, depending on the day and the attitude.
She is thriving in Kindergarten (first day of school picture enclosed for
those that do not see here regularly.) She
just started taking piano, an undertaking somehow genetically mandated so that
the current parents understand and are punished for what the grandparents went
through. We still live
in the same place and neither Jami nor Stephen has a full time job, although the
for- and non- profits boards take up just about as much time.
Since we didn’t quite get around to sending out our Christmas cards
last year, you can find that update on the web site at http://www.nachtsheim.com/christmas2001.htm.
The Year
We
repeated the great trek north to Lutsen, Minnesota for skiing with Steve’s
brother Chris and family – another great experience for the second year in a
row: four
mountains, lots of snow, 90 runs, 30 chairs and about 50 people total!
Katie continues to love skiing.
The BIG occurrence of the springtime was a(nother) new two-wheel bike for
Katie, since she outgrew the second one.
This one has five gears and hand brakes, which she pretty quickly
mastered without spilling too much blood.
She continued in Bing pre-school while taking her usual assortment of
extracurriculars:
dance, soccer, etc.
She had a big dance recital in May in which she played a
hootchie-cootchie dancer – the pictures are on the web and are great blackmail
material for later one when she starts dating (at age 30!).
We also went fossil hunting in Utah – Katie’s then current passion.
When school was out for the year, she went to summer day camp at the
local elementary school and learned all about knights and castles.
The
wedding anniversary trip this year was to New York City for a saturated Broadway
three days – four plays.
Good theater, lousy hotel.
The trip was abbreviated because we had to get home to get ready for the
ALL-FAMILY REUNION.
Yes, every member of the families was invited to the cabin for 4th
of July. It
was a once in a lifetime occurrence (you can bet on it).
Seriously it was great fun only marred by the fact that Jim Dover
(Jami’s dad) hurt his back a couple of days before he they were supposed to
arrive and had to cancel.
He recovered in record time.
(Stephen asked for a medical certificate – it just seemed a little TOO
convenient!)
In
August we took Katie on her first international trip – England, Germany and
Switzerland – to visit a few of our old haunts and see some friends from when
we lived / worked in Europe.
Great trip – Katie is a wonderful traveler, especially after she
discovered the Cartoon Channel on the airplane.
As soon as we got back she started Kindergarten at St. Raymond’s school
– uniform and all.
Loves it!
Stephen
just got appointed to the Trustees at the University of St. Thomas; it must have
been that .9 GPA that he had there freshmen year that cemented the deal.
Katie is currently rehearsing for the big school Christmas pageant – I
think she gets to be a tree or a donkey or something.
We can probably find extra tickets if anyone wants to come.
Have
a great holiday season and a fantastic 2003.
Katie, Jami and Stephen
